How to Prompt Claude Like an Expert
The best prompt template to get world-class results from Claude for every prompt.
I’m traveling this week and have been very deep in Claude Code building systems to share on this Substack, so this is a much lighter update than normal.
But I’m going to share an incredibly valuable asset to help you get better results from Claude.
There is undoubtedly still a lot of value in being able to prompt correctly, and this template is a great one to follow. Just give it to Claude, name it ‘Claude Prompt Template’, store it in memory, and then, for anything you want Claude to help you with, ask it to tailor it after this template.
The prompt template works as follows:
It has 7 parts:
Task — What you want Claude to do, and what success looks like.
Context Files — Reference docs Claude should read first (your style guide, audience profile, brand rules).
Reference — An example of the output you want, plus a “blueprint” of what makes it work.
Success Brief — The output type, how the reader should feel after reading it, and what to avoid.
Rules — Your non-negotiables. If Claude is about to break one, it stops and tells you.
Conversation — Instead of just executing, Claude asks clarifying questions first so you refine the approach together.
Plan + Alignment — Claude lists the rules that matter most, then gives you a 5-step execution plan. It only starts work once you’ve approved it.
Hugely valuable and actionable. Fully recommend adding to Claude’s memory and working with Claude to craft your most important prompts in this way.
Until Next Time,
Happy AI’fying
