Prompt Template from OpenAI Co-founder
Prompt engineering is one of the most critical skills to learn for better AI results. Here's a great template to improve your prompts.
I recently caught up with the CPO of a large Fortune 500 company heavily investing in AI. I was digging into how you win in AI. His answer was prompt engineering.
It's still one of the most vital skills to learn.
I invested a bunch of time in prompting over 12 months ago now. Since then, I've slid into a routine of using the AI assistants to craft prompts for me.
That conversation made me realize I needed to dive back into prompting to practice the craft.
I'm in prompt learning mode right now and wanted to share a cool template I came across.
First, there are a lot of great free resources for people who want to get better at prompting from large AI models, e.g.:
1. Antropic's Prompt Engineering Guide
2. OpenAI's Prompt Engineering Guide
3. Google Gemini's Prompt Engineering Guide
I'd recommend Antropic's prompt guide.
Now, let's move on to the template from OpenAI co-founder Greg Brockman. It's a great, simple breakdown of how you put together a prompt for o1 models (but it can be used for most other models and maybe needs to be tweaked slightly for o3 models).
The core components are:
1. Set a clear goal
2. Set the format you want
3. Provide warnings
4. Give context
Here's a quick tip, and is generally how I use AI. I take information like this and create a custom GTP to craft prompts for me using this template—more details in the video.
Until Next Time,
Happy AI’fying
